Simmons & Simmons has finalised this year's promotions with eight new partners to be made up.

The appointments, which will be back-dated to 1 May, see the firm make up two new partners in its City base, having appointed only one London partner last year.

The final vote on promotions was taken at a partnership meeting in the firm's City base last Friday (25 June).

In addition to London, Paris has also seen two new partner promotions while the other four are spread across Amsterdam, Milan, Abu Dhabi and Shanghai.

The appointments come in a range of practice areas, with the dispute resolution and projects departments winning two new partners apiece, while European competition and regulatory, intellectual property, tax and employment will see one each.

Last year only four new partners were promoted at Simmons – a steep decline from a previous 18 on 1 May 2008.

Commenting on the new round, Simmons senior partner David Dickinson (pictured) said: "All eight individuals have demonstrated outstanding expertise and commitment to our clients, and their promotion reflects our commitment to career development and recognition of exceptional talent."

This is the second year that Simmons has waited until June to finalise partner promotions, having last year delayed the process to focus on finalising a new three-year plan. The firm said the timing this year was based on wanting to leave a 12-month gap since the latest process.
