Allen & Overy (A&O) has added to its Australian arm with the hire of energy partner Angus Jones from Allens Arthur Robinson.

Jones is set to join the firm's global energy group in Perth on 1 October after 13 years as a partner at Allens Arthur.

He has extensive experience of projects and transactions around the world, including Europe, Asia and South America, and specialises in upstream oil and gas transactions, gas sales and gas pipeline arrangements, and renewable energy and mining projects.

Geoff Simpson, managing partner of the magic circle firm's Perth office, said: "The energy and resources sectors represent important parts of the legal market in Australia.

"Angus is one of Australia's leading energy and resources lawyers and his arrival significantly bolsters our offering to clients, allowing the corporate practice to fully service the opportunities and transactions available in Australia and in markets such as Japan, China, India, Korea, Indonesia and Singapore."

A&O also grew its Sydney office last month with the hire of Dave Poddar from domestic firm Mallesons Stephen Jacques.

The news comes after the firm became the first magic circle outfit to open in Indonesia with the confirmation of an association with new Jakarta practice Daniel Ginting Law Firm on 1 July.
