Pinsent Masons has won a second term on Manchester United's legal panel.

Pinsents has held a panel role to advise the football club on data protection and employment law since 2008, with the appointment now extended for a further two years.

Brabners Chaffe Street is also understood to have been retained on the panel after first being appointed in 2008 to advise on dispute resolution, real estate and some aspects of commercial law.

The other firms to take panel roles in 2008 were Beachcroft, Halliwells and Wiggin.

Beachcroft was appointed to advise the Premier League club on employment and licensing, while Halliwells has handled IT and some aspects of commercial work and Wiggin has been advising on the club's official television station MUTV.

The entire panel is expected to be reappointed, with the exception of Halliwells, as the troubled firm concludes the sell-off of its business.

Pinsents relationship partner Rosemary Jay said: "Manchester United recognises the importance of ensuring good data protection compliance and we have been fortunate enough to work with them in this field over the last two years.

"We are excited at the opportunities which will arise now we can extend the scope of the relationship."

Allen & Overy (A&O) advises Manchester United on corporate finance matters, but does not have a formal panel role. The magic circle firm acted for the US-based Glazer family on their controversial takeover of the club in 2004.
