Field Fisher Waterhouse has boosted its technology, media and telecoms (TMT) practice with the hire of Denton Wilde Sapte technology partner John Worthy.
Worthy joined the firm last Friday (16 July) from Dentons, where he had been a partner since 1996. He was also sector head for technology, media and telecoms from 2004 to 2008.
Worthy advises major banks, corporates and government agencies on complex technology, outsourcing and telecoms projects.
His practice covers financial services, transport and TMT sectors, including payment processes, security and data protection, outsourcing, network roll outs, IT procurement and satellite transactions.
The hire will strengthen Field Fisher's technology law practice, which has grown in recent years with the hires of technology partners Andrew Dodd and Nick Holland, who joined from DLA Piper in 2008 and Eversheds in 2009, respectively.
Field Fisher head of technology Michael Chissick said: "We are taking a two-pronged approach to our strategy of expansion in the technology practice, which is based on both lateral partner hires and organic growth from within the firm. [Worthy's] telecoms and satellite expertise consolidates the firm's position as a market leader in the sector and his banking technology experience will allow us to grow our financial services capability."
In April, Field Fisher unveiled a new strategy dubbed the 'virtuous triangle', which focuses on attracting clients from industries that are highly regulated and those driven by technology and intellectual property (IP). As part of this, the firm will prioritise the growth of its IP and technology, corporate and regulatory practice areas.
