Allen & Overy has recruited its first native Saudi Arabian partner with a hire from its associate firm Abdulaziz Al Gasim (AAG) in Riyadh.

Corporate partner Zeyad Khoshaim, who is both New York and Saudi Arabian qualified, will continue to be based in AAG's Riyadh office.

His practice focuses on transactional and energy work, as well as initial public offerings, private placements and debt issues.

Khoshaim advises corporate multinationals on M&A, structuring and financing projects, and corporate and regulatory requirements in relation to obtaining licenses from the Saudi Arabian Capital Market Authority to conduct securities business in the country.

Middle East regional managing partner Simon Roderick commented: ""The hire is undoubtedly a good fit, given that Khosaim's focus is on transactional and energy projects and AAG focuses mainly on litigation and legislative work.

"In addition, having a Saudi national on the team definitely gives us more credibility locally and we look forward to working with him."

The news comes after the firm became the first magic circle outfit to open in Indonesia with the confirmation of an association with new Jakarta practice Daniel Ginting Law Firm on 1 July.

A&O also this year launched an office in Qatar with the relocation of City real estate partner Robert Porter, gifting the firm its fourth office in the region alongside Dubai and Abu Dhabi and the Riyadh associate office.
