Cuatrecasas Goncalves Pereira has appointed new managing partners for its London and New York offices.

Finance partner Inigo Rubio has taken over the helm in the City, replacing Florentino Carreno and Enric Picanyol, who have spent four years as co-managing partners in the Iberian firm's London base.

Rubio (pictured) said: "Our goal is stay put in London ready for the gradual increase in transactions between Spain and foreign countries.

"Due to the economic climate there have not been many investments into Spain so activity has been reduced, but we are in the same position as our competitors and are confident that things will pick up. London is still an important base for us and we want to see our work grow here."

Rubio relocated to London in January 2010 and was made up to the partnership in March this year.

Former City co-heads Carreno and Picanyol have returned to Madrid and Barcelona as partners in the finance and M&A practices respectively.

Meanwhile, corporate partner Miguel Angel Melero has taken over as New York managing partner from Albert Garrofe, who has been the director of the office since 2006.

Melero specialises in private equity and M&A and headed up the firm's Casablanca launch in 2007. Garofe has also now returned to Barcelona as a partner in the M&A practice.

The new appointments came into effect on 1 September.
