Baker & McKenzie has launched an office in Luxembourg through a tie-up with local outfit Findling Collin Fessmann.

The new office, which went live today (1October) will be headed by Findling founding partner Jean-Francois Findling, alongside Andre Pesch who joins the firm from Ernst & Young.

Pesch will head up the tax practice in the new outfit. Also joining from Findling are corporate partner Raphaeel Collin, banking partner Laurent Fessmann and a team of associates.

Bakers' chairman of the firm's executive committee, John Conroy, said: "The establishment of the office is an important step for our firm's efforts to strengthen our service offerings for clients.

"Many of our clients in the corporate and financial services sectors have entities or funds registered in Luxembourg. We are regularly advising on their transactional matters, and our new office provides us with an on-the-ground presence in this increasingly important global financial center."

Findling was established in September last year when all three partners left top Luxembourg firm Noble & Scheideker.

The office marks the Baker's first new presence in Europe in seven years and its 68th office worldwide.
