Herbert Smith has appointed real estate partner Matthew White as the firm's new graduate recruitment partner

He will replace corporate partner Chris Parsons, who has chosen to step down after six years in the role.

White (pictured), who will take up the post from 1 November, is a partner in the planning group of the firm's real estate division and has been involved in the firm's recruitment process in recent years, taking part in university recruitment and interviewing candidates.

He will continue fee earning alongside the new role, which will see him guide and develop the firm's graduate recruitment strategy.

He will also oversee and participate in the campus activities Herbert Smith undertakes at UK universities and he will also actively support graduate recruitment diversity initiatives, playing a central role in interviewing and selecting candidates.

Hebert Smith senior partner Jonathan Scott commented: "This is a very important job which Chris has carried out with great success over the last six years, but he recognises it is now time to hand over to another partner. We are very grateful to Chris and wish Matthew every success. His interest and experience make him ideally suited to the role."

White will be supported by disputes partner Ted Greeno and corporate partner David Paterson in promoting the firm at universities to represent two of the firm's key practice areas.

Meanwhile, Veronica Roberts will continue as deputy graduate recruitment partner and Paul Lewis as vacation scheme partner. On the human resources side, Peter Chater remains the firm's head of resourcing, which is a full-time recruitment role which in addition to graduate recruitment also oversees lateral hiring.
