Garrigues has posted an increase in turnover for the third consecutive year alongside 19 promotions to the firm's partnership.

The 2009-10 results, which were announced at a partner meeting today (26 October), saw the Iberian firm increase turnover by 5.5% to €353m (£309m) from the figure of €334m (£293m) taken in during 2008-09.

Garrigues also today announced the appointment of 19 lawyers to the firm's partnership, all of who are based its Spanish offices. The total number of new partners is less than the firm made up last year when 32 lawyers joined the partnership.

Garrigues' London head Guillermo Munoz-Alonso (pictured) said: "This year's turnover is in line with what we expected. Inevitably there is always a little bit of uncertainty until the very last day, but it is a very good result and shows that the firm has had a strong year in spite of the difficult environment.

"The promotions are also a demonstration of this and it is a great satisfaction to see that the partnership has been able to maintain the career path for our rising stars and not allow it to be affected by any difficult times."

The new partners are spread across the firm's offices in Barcelona, Bilbao, Las Palmas, Madrid, Murcia, Oviedo, San Sebastian, Seville, Toledo and Valencia.

The figures were announced following Garrigues' financial year end on 31 August. The firm operates to a different financial year to its Spanish rivals, which largely work on a calendar-year timeframe.
