Barclays Corporate has appointed a new head of legal for its debt financing division with the hire of a senior associate from Ashurst.

Catherine Dauger de Caulaincourt – a former lawyer at both Clifford Chance and France's Gide Loyrette Nouel – is set to join the bank after serving her notice period at Ashurst's City HQ.

During her time at Ashurst, Dauger de Caulaincourt spent time on secondment to UniCredit Bank's corporate and investment banking division, with her career to date including stints in Paris, Luxemburg and Tokyo.

Barclays Commercial rebranded as Barclays Corporate around three months ago. Before the rebranding, Barclays Commercial had sat within the bank's retail banking arm, whereas now it is a part of the bank's corporate, investment banking and wealth management division.

Dauger de Caulaincourt's departure comes as Ashurst's former head of structured finance Erica Handling prepares to leave the firm and take up her new role at Barclays Capital as general counsel for Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA).

Three months ago Ashurst rolled out a new strategy to strengthen the firm's relationships with a number of banks including Barclays, RBS, Lloyds Bank, Santander, Credit Agricole and Credit Suisse.

The firm is currently running a structured training programme for partners that features skills-based workshops covering areas such as pitching and marketing, in conjunction with a series of presentations from external consultants.
