DLA Piper has hired Hogan Lovells' head of intellectual property, media and technology (IPMT) in Warsaw to head up the firm's practice in Poland.

Krystyna Szczepanowska-Kozlowska joined DLA last month to head up the intellectual property and technology practice (IPT) after leaving Hogan Lovells in September. She is the only partner in DLA's Warsaw practice.

Szczepanowska-Kozlowska joined legacy Lovells as a partner in 2008, prior to which she was at Linklaters for seven years. She advises on copyrights, new technologies, data protection and competition regulatory issues.

Szczepanowska-Kozlowska commented: "DLA Piper has a very dynamic office in Warsaw, full of young people and with lots of room to grow, so when I was offered the opportunity to drive the growth of the IPT department I was very interested.

"IPT is a very important area for clients in Poland at the moment and it has become the central country for investors into Central Eastern Europe. Intangible assets have become one of the most important aspects of businesses and will continue to be for many years."

Szczepanowska-Kozlowska was the only partner in Hogan Lovells' Warsaw IPMT practice.

The entire Hogan & Hartson Polish office defected to K&L Gates in March this year prior to its merger with Lovells. This was followed by a five-strong Hogan Lovells pharma team leaving the firm's Warsaw office this summer to join Baker & McKenzie in the Polish capital.
