Two former Barclays Capital lawyers have resurfaced at London private equity firms, following a number of departures from the investment bank's legal department.

Tom Bartos, formerly a senior legal director at the bank, has taken a role as partner and general counsel at City real estate finance boutique Bell Capital Partners.

He will be reunited with former BarCap colleagues Robert Bell and Robert Palache, who launched Bell Capital in 2009.

Meanwhile, former BarCap senior legal director Penny Walker, who also worked alongside Bartos and left the bank at a similar time, is set to join Mayfair-based private equity firm Campbell Lutyens as general counsel.

The news comes just over a week after news emerged that Barclays Capital had rejigged its legal function in the wake of two high-profile appointments earlier this year.

BarCap global general counsel Judith Shepherd has taken on additional responsibility for managing the bank's compliance division under the title of global head of legal and compliance.

The changes means global head of compliance Stephen Morse will report into Shepherd, who replaced Jonathan Hughes as global general counsel in March this year.
