DLA Piper's technology and sourcing team has landed its first role advising low cost airline easyJet on its tie-up with the Lowcostholidays group.

The national firm fielded a team led by technology and sourcing partner Mark Crichard alongside associate Siobhan Mullens.

The deal was completed last month (November), with the new venture due to launch in early 2011.

The collaboration, which will be branded as easyJet holidays, will create a new holiday business across Europe by combining easyJet flights with Lowcost accommodation.

DLA Piper has previously advised easyJet on aviation and finance related work; however, this is the first deal the technology and sourcing team has advised the airline on.

Lowcostholidays group was advised by in-house counsel.

Crichard said: "This deal which presented some unique challenges. The contract had to be carefully constructed to meet easyJet's commercial objectives, while at the same time fitting in with the complex underlying regulatory environment. The deal builds on our existing expertise in advising airlines and other operators in the aviation sector on technology and outsourcing transactions."

He added: "We have done a lot of work on the aviation sector but we are keen to expand our portfolio. This is the first time I have done anything for a low costs carrier and there was a different dynamic there. We hope to work with easyJet going forward."
