McDermott Will & Emery has announced the details of its annual partner promotions round, with five lawyers made up across Europe including two in London.

Sharon Tan (pictured) and James Ross are set to join the US firm's City partnership in the employment and tax practices respectively. The London promotions are the firm's first in the UK for three years.

News of the promotions comes as the firm gears up to move its City base in February 2011 to Heron Tower on Bishopsgate, which will be London's tallest building when it opens next year.

McDermott Europe head Hugh Nineham said: "There have not been any London promotions for two years, so this is a great sign for the City office this year, in addition to our office move that will set us up for further growth in the future."

The remaining European promotions come in the firm's Brussels, Duesseldorf and Munich offices, with the total of five marking a significant increase on the two partners the firm made up in Europe in 2009.

Philipp Werner has been promoted in the Brussels competition practice, while Sebastian von Lossow has been made up in the Duesseldorf corporate practice and Vincent Schroeder has been promoted in the Munich intellectual property group.

Nineham added: "The firm is keen to see its European operations thrive and grow in key practice areas and the increase in European promotions this year is an indication of that."

The firm has also made up a further 23 lawyers across its US offices. The promotions are effective as of 1 January 2011.
