DLA Piper and Addleshaw Goddard have advised on a property deal which will see ITV move the entire set of Coronation Street to the new MediaCityUK development in Manchester. The deal will see ITV move the company's Manchester base to Peel Holdings' 700,000 sq m development in Salford Quays in 2012. DLA Piper and Addleshaw Goddard have advised on a property deal which will see ITV move the entire set of Coronation Street to the new MediaCityUK development in Manchester.
The deal will see ITV move its Manchester base to Peel Holdings' 700,000 sq m development in Salford Quays in 2012. It will also see ITV build a standalone production and studio centre for the long-running TV soap on a 7.7 acre site at Trafford Wharf in Manchester.
DLA Piper advised ITV on the deal, with a team led by Manchester real estate partner and department head Anita Weightman and real estate legal director Claire Quinn. The team was also supported by lawyers from the firm's planning, environmental, construction and tax teams.
Meanwhile, Addleshaws partners Mark Haywood, Nancy McGuire and Richard Wheeldon led the team advising Peel.
Weightman commented: "This is obviously a landmark property deal for Manchester and one of the most significant media transactions outside of London for many years. We have worked with ITV for more than 20 years and are delighted to be involved in such a profound decision, especially as Coronation Street celebrates its 50th anniversary."
Haywood added: "[The] relocation of ITV further underlines the emergence of [MediaCityUK] as the media destination outside London, and will be the catalyst for even greater activity at this iconic waterside development."
