Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe has launched its fourth office in Germany, with the opening of a base in Munich.
The US firm has taken on an eight-lawyer team from Denver-based technology and media firm Holme Roberts & Owen to launch the office, including two partners. M&A partners Jens Roehrborn and Joerg Ritter lead the team, which also includes two of counsel, four associates and two paralegals.
Orrick said Munich was strategically important for private equity and venture capital financing work.
Global firm chairman and chief executive Ralph Baxter said: "Because Munich is the leading market for industrial and technology companies in Germany, and the hub of German's private equity and venture capital communities, we believe this is yet another important step in our strategic plan to create the world's leading technology and emerging companies practice."
Commenting on the move, Roehrborn said: "The German emerging company market is making a strong rebound, and this combination with Orrick will allow us to take advantage of the firm's platform, reputation and strong brand to take our practice to the next level."
Orrick has had offices in Berlin, Duesseldorf and Frankfurt since merging with German firm Hoelters & Elsing in 2008. The firm operates in Germany as Orrick Hoelters & Elsing.
Holme Roberts & Owen will no longer have an office in Germany. It has offices in London and Dublin as well as seven offices across the US. It launched in Munich in 2003 by taking over local firm Knoll Roehrborn & Partner.
