CMS Cameron McKenna has launched an international capital markets (ICM) group with the hire of Simmons & Simmons US securities partner Daniel Winterfeldt.
As previously reported by Legal Week, Winterfeldt left Simmons in early December 2010. He will join Camerons next month (1 February) to head up the new team, which will span 13 offices in the UK and Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) and include around 40 partners.
Winterfeldt (pictured) began his career in the US but has practised in the London market since 2000. He started out at in the City offices of US firms Weil Gotshal & Manges and Jones Day, before joining Simmons as a partner in 2007.
The ICM group will include capital markets lawyers both in corporate and banking.
Winterfeldt said: "I was drawn to the firm's strength in international capital markets across their Western Europe and CEE network, providing an excellent platform for expansion. They have a fantastic team already in place and I look forward to helping build their business further by strengthening relationships with their existing client base as well as potential new clients."
Camerons head of debt capital markets and derivatives Jason Harding said: "We already have a large and widespread capital markets practice but Daniel heading up the international group will give it a bit more structure. We had been looking at a number of different strategies to achieve this goal and have hired Daniel as he comes highly recommended in the market."
Winterfeldt is the first US-qualified securities lawyer at Camerons, with Harding adding: "In the last 18 months our capital markets practice has noted an increased demand from clients wanting a one-stop shop in terms of UK and US law, especially in our substantial CEE practice."
Winterfeldt is also the founder of the Forum for US Securities Lawyers in London, a trade association representing US-qualified lawyers and participants in the London capital markets. He also founded the InterLaw Diversity Forum for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Networks in 2008.
Camerons' capital markets clients include Enterprise Inns, HSBC, Hunting, Investec, JP Morgan, National Grid, Pendragon, Royal Mail, Savills, TT Electronics and Deutsche Bank.
