SNR Denton leads as Thames Water outsources metering service
SNR Denton has advised London's main water distributor Thames Water on a £300m deal that will see it outsource all of its metering services.
The 10-year contract will see Vennsys – a consortium led by Veolia Water UK – handle all of the meter readings and meter installation for Thames Water.
SNR Denton City-based technology, media and telecoms partner Nick Graham led the team advising Thames Water, which also included corporate partner Nigel Webber and energy partner Danielle Beggs.
The transatlantic law firm won the appointment in 2009 with the deal closing at the end of December.
SNR Denton's appointment comes despite Thames Water notably striking a deal with Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP) last year to handle all of its legal work, with the majority of its in-house legal team joining the top 20 City law firm.
However, BLP did not take a role on the outsourcing deal as legacy firm Denton Wilde Sapte's involvement predates Thames Waters' arrangement with BLP.
Graham said: "SNR Denton has a longstanding relationship with Thames Water and we have been advising on the managed metering service deal since September 2009. We were also a leading adviser on their former panel arrangements."
Thames Water head of legal Bill Blackburn added: "You don't switch advisers in the middle of a project unless you have a very good reason. Dentons is a trusted adviser."
Other firms on the company's former panel included Linklaters, DLA Piper, Osborne Clarke, Pinsent Masons and Ashfords. Veolia Water UK relied on its in-house legal team.
