McGrigors managing partner Richard Masters has been re-elected to serve a second term at the helm of the big four Scots firm.

Masters (pictured) will continue in his role as managing partner for a further three years, which will officially begin on 31 March, following an uncontested election.

During his three years at the head of the top 50 UK firm, Masters has overseen significant expansion for McGrigors, including the firm's mergers with Belfast's L'Estrange & Brett in 2009 and West End litigation practice Reid Minty in 2008. During his tenure the firm's Manchester office has also doubled in size.

Masters said: "The firm has come a long way over the past few years. We are playing to our strengths in the energy, infrastructure and professional and financial services sectors, and continuing to develop our reputation for excellence and innovation among our client base."

Masters recently played a lead role in the debate over the Scottish Legal Services Act, which was ultimately passed in 2010. He argued that Scottish headquartered law firms would be left at a significant disadvantage to their English counterparts if legislation governing external investment into law firms was not broadly in line on both sides of the border.

McGrigors was the top-performing Scottish firm in the UK top 50 rankings during 2009-10 after reporting an 16% increase in revenue to £69m. The firm rose to 44th place, overtaking local rival Dundas & Wilson.
