Norton Rose is set to make a lateral hire in London with the addition of a real estate finance partner from Nabarro.

Duncan Hubbard (pictured) will join Norton Rose's banking practice later this month (21 February). Formerly a lawyer at Ashurst, Hubbard has been a partner in the banking, finance and restructuring team at Nabarro since 2005.

He specialises in real estate finance, acting for financial institutions, funds and real estate private equity clients. UK transactions he has advised on included financing the acquisition of City landmark the Gherkin.

He is particularly active in advising German commercial and real estate banks with knowledge of the German covered bond market and the German Investment Act rules.

Norton Rose said the hire comes at an important time, with the global and London real estate market experiencing fast recovery, and that Hubbard's German specialism will aid the firm as a number of German financial institutions are particularly active in the UK and Western Europe real estate market.

Norton Rose banking head Jeremy Edwards said: "Duncan brings with him a skill-set that fits very neatly with our vision for our international banking practice. Duncan has an outstanding track record in advising banks on a mix of complex, large cap deals as well as transactional matters. His practice of established banks and real estate financiers opens up new opportunities to further strengthen our European and global real estate financing offering."

Norton Rose has six London-based partners who specialise in real estate finance working across its banking and corporate finance practices. Ahead of Hubbard's hire, the firm currently has 46 London banking partners.

The news comes after Nabarro recruited senior foreign counsel Glenn Cheng from Norton Rose in Singapore earlier this month. Cheng joined Nabarro as a partner in the construction and engineering group.

Norton Rose has added a number of partners in its international network over the last few months. The London office most recently saw two new lateral partners join in September last year, with the arrival of legacy Denton Wilde Sapte dispute resolution co-head Paul Morris and DLA Piper marine disputes partner David McKie.
