What are the key technological issues keeping top general counsel awake at night? In this video we ask a selection of senior delegates and speakers who attended Legal Week Corporate Counsel Forum Europe to highlight the critical challenges they have identified over the next five years.
This video includes contributions from Bruce Macmillan, general counsel of the Legal Services Board, Jonathan Adelman, general counsel of Ladbrokes and Richard Given, director legal, emerging markets at Cisco and Jeremy Barton (pictured), general counsel and head of risk management at The Boston Consulting Group.
The answers demonstrate the crucial role technology plays in the management of an effective legal department. Challenges identified by contributors touch on data protection, document management systems, content building systems, e-disclosure, cost control, legal and business process outsourcing, work life balance, effective team working between in-house lawyers and their outside advisers and work life balance.
Although the general counsel who appear in this video demonstrate a keen awareness of the ability of technology to improve efficiency, Julia Chain, of Huron Consulting Group, says many in-house lawyers remain reluctant to embrace technology and warns that this presents them with a major challenge given the pace of technological change.
