Baker & McKenzie has added to its Hong Kong dispute resolution practice with the hire of Simmons & Simmons partner James Kwan.

Kwan, who is set to join Bakers on 1 March, joined the Simmons partnership in Hong Kong in 2008 from Allen & Overy's Dubai office, where he was a dispute resolution consultant.

His practice focuses on international commercial arbitration and litigation, with a particular emphasis on infrastructure, engineering and energy disputes.

Bakers global dispute resolution head Gary Seib said: "We have a very active dispute resolution group across our China offices and have been focusing for a long time on a number of high value areas of practice including international arbitration.

"We have a very strong team in the region already, but as work increases we constantly look for people who complement our practice to add to the group. We are also focusing our efforts on energy, mining and infrastructure related projects and James has a lot of experience in this area."

Kwan will take the total number of partners in Bakers' Hong Kong dispute resolution team to six.

The news follows the appointment of corporate partner and former executive committee member Poh Lee Tan as managing partner for Bakers' China and Hong Kong offices last November, following an overhaul of the firm's executive committee.
