Clyde & Co has grown its New York arm with the hire of O'Melveny & Myers insurance and reinsurance chair Paul Koepff.

Koepff, who is joining the UK firm this month, will take the total number of partners in Clydes' New York insurance and reinsurance practice to six.

He specialises in litigating in insurance and reinsurance-related disputes, and will be the ninth partner in Clydes' New York base.

Clydes New York insurance and reinsurance partner Michael Knoerzer said: "One of our goals as an office is to focus on the insurance and reinsurance area. In the US we started this process about three years ago, and although we've seen some notable hires, we feel like Paul represents the high water mark of our recruiting efforts so far in insurance and reinsurance.

"We share a number of the same clients, so our practices are very complementary, but he will also be bringing a number of new clients that we are very excited to work with."

The announcement follows yesterday's (7 March) news that Clydes is in talks with Canadian insurance boutique Nicholl Paskell-Mede about a potential tie-up that would gift the firm its first presence in the region.

Clydes made its US debut in 2006 with the hire of a team of lawyers from US firm Condon & Forsyth, before launching in New Jersey in February last year with two partners and a team of associates from local outfit Connell Foley.
