LG and Burges Salmon have been appointed to the Crown Estate's urban portfolio panel following a competitive tender process led jointly by legal director Vivienne King and senior counsel Alex Peeke.

The appointments will take effect on 1 April 2011 and see Burges Salmon reappointed for a three-year term to the Crown's St James's portfolio, which it has been working on since 2005, with LG winning a first-time appointment to the Crown's regional portfolio.

King (pictured) said: "We are delighted with the twin appointment of Burges Salmon and LG, which are an excellent match of skills for our ambitions in these portfolios. These teams strengthen an already talented and enthusiastic team of lawyers supporting the Crown Estate through a shared commitment to our core values of commercialism, integrity and stewardship."

LG real estate partner Rabinder Chaggar said: "We are delighted to be appointed to such a prestigious client and are looking forward to working with the Crown Estate team in implementing their strategic objectives for the regional portfolio."

The Crown's coveted Regent Street portfolio, for which SJ Berwin is currently the sole legal adviser, is up for review in April 2012.

The Crown Estate manages a highly diverse property business valued at £6.6bn.
