Former Attorney General Baroness Scotland is rejoining the Bar today (10 March) to take up a new role at 4 Paper Buildings.

The move will see her return to practising children's law, an area she focused on prior to her political career, with 4 Paper Buildings one of the leading sets in the UK in this sector.

Scotland's political career has spanned the past decade including three years as Attorney General and four years as minister of state for the criminal justice system and law reform.

She was the first woman to hold the post of Attorney General and at the age of 35 became the youngest-ever female QC.

She said: "I'm delighted at the prospect of returning to the Bar, and tackling issues of human rights, equality and the rule of law and continuing to espouse the causes and issues which have engaged me throughout my eleven years as a government minister.

"Family breakdown is the cause of much suffering and I'm therefore honoured to be joining a set which is known for its excellence and rooted in this area of law.

"I will continue to champion domestic and international pro bono and maintain efforts to overcome the global challenges of domestic violence."

The news follows this year's silk round, announced last week, that saw Catherine Wood and Rex Howling from 4 Paper Buildings appointed as QCs, taking the total number of silks at the set to 10.
