Gibson Dunn & Crutcher has boosted its City litigation practice with the hire of a new partner from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.

Patrick Doris will join the US firm's London office as a partner later this month from his current role as senior associate at Freshfields.

Doris, whose practice focuses on commercial litigation, regulatory work and antitrust, joined the magic circle firm in 1998 after teaching EU law at the University of Warwick and a spell at the Law Commission of England & Wales.

Commenting on the appointment, Gibson Dunn London co-managing partner Tom Budd said: "We've seen a significant increase in our international disputes work over the last year, and Patrick will help us continue that trend in London and firmwide."

He added: "In this past year, we've opened a Hong Kong office with litigation capability, and we've launched a transnational litigation and foreign judgments practice group, which focuses on defending multinational corporations against claims involving jurisdictions around the world."

Doris's move comes after corporate partner Jeff Roberts also left Freshfields to join Gibson Dunn last year – a move which marked the US firm's first lateral partner appointment in London since May 2008.

Earlier this month Freshfields announced its annual partner promotions round, making up 20 lawyers across the firm, including nine in the City.
