Wragge & Co has picked up a role advising alongside Weil Gotshal & Manges and Dickson Minto on the private equity sale of Phones 4u.

National firm Wragges is advising Phones 4u's management on the deal, which sees the company switch hands from Providence Equity Partners to BC Partners. Birmingham corporate partner Baljit Chohan took the lead role for the firm.

Weil secured the lead mandate from sellers Providence, with London private equity partner Marco Compagnoni leading a team including corporate associates Simon Lyell and Oliver Williams.

BC Partners, meanwhile, turned to Dickson Minto, where senior partner Alastair Dickson and corporate partner Peter Uri advised. The deal, which is expected to close in April, also sees Deutsche advising Providence and Global Leisure Partners and Goldman Sachs advising BC Partners.

The deal value is undisclosed but it is reported to be worth up to £700m. The Staffordshire-based company, which has more than 500 stores nationwide, reported 2010 sales of more than £900m – more than 20% up on the previous year.

Providence acquired Phones 4u through its 2006 joint acquisition of Caudwell Communications with Doughty Hanson for £1.46bn. That deal saw the London office of Kirkland & Ellis advising Providence, fielding a team led by private equity partner Matthew Hurlock, with Skadden advising Doughty Hanson.
