Hogan Lovells is adding its first dedicated capital markets partner in Singapore, with the relocation of London partner Andrew Carey to the office.

Carey, who will join the five-partner office on 4 April, specialises in international securities offerings including corporate debt issues, high-yield and equity and asset-backed debt offerings.

He will work closely with capital markets partner Philip Hyde, who splits his time between Hong Kong and Tokyo, to strengthen the Asian capital markets practice. The firm hopes to increase the amount of issuer and underwriter work it carries out in the region.

Carey said: "It's a tremendous opportunity. We already have a strong capital markets presence in Asia considering the size of our team, but the region is experiencing phenomenal growth at the moment in that practice area.

"The Asian market shows real promise for our clients, so hopefully we'll be able to grow the practice quickly."

Carey joined legacy Lovells as a trainee in 1990 before qualifying in 1992. He was made partner in 2000 and has worked in the firm's London, New York and Tokyo offices.

Commenting on the appointment, Hogan Lovells Asia and Middle East regional managing partner Crispin Rapinet said: "Andrew is hugely respected in the field. He has an invaluable wealth of international capital markets experience to bring to the region and, more importantly, for the direct benefit of our institutional clients in this vital and growing market."
