Squire Sanders Hammonds has picked up a lead role acting for Deloitte on the administration of struggling wine retailer Oddbins.

The transatlantic firm's team is being led by London restructuring partner Cathryn Williams, after Deloitte partners Lee Manning and Matthew Smith were this week (4 April) appointed as joint administrators to Oddbins.

The off licence chain had been planning to restructure its debts through a company voluntary agreement (CVA). However, it failed to receive the full support of all of its creditors necessary for the CVA, so was forced to enter into administration. Notably, HM Revenue & Customs, a major creditor of Oddbins, refused to support the CVA.

Deloitte confirmed that administrators had been holding discussions with several parties interested in buying the business, with Oddbins set to continue trading while administrators seek a sale.

Oddbins has 89 stores across the UK and Ireland, and employs around 400 staff. The company has an annual turnover of £75m, including £2m of online sales.

Deloitte was also recently appointed on the administration of repair company Auto Windscreens, with Wragge & Co taking the lead role for Deloitte. The national firm fielded a team led by restructuring partner Vicki Conway and director Jasvir Jootla.
