White & Case competition partner Alastair Sutton has left the firm's Brussels office to join Brick Court Chambers as a barrister.

Sutton (pictured), who joined the chambers' Brussels arm earlier this week (5 April), has been appointed by Brick Court as a door tenant. He previously spent more than 10 years with the European Commission before practising law in Brussels with Forrester Norall & Sutton, which merged with White & Case in 1998.

Sutton, who has a particular focus on the financial services sector, will continue to advise on a wide range of EU law areas, including competition and state aid and international economic law.

Commenting on the move, Sutton said: "It is a privilege to join Chambers and to have the opportunity to develop Brick Court's presence in Brussels. It will be a pleasure to work with many old friends and colleagues in the European law team at Brick Court, who have done so much to develop EU law in England."

He added: "I also look forward to working with colleagues who specialise in financial services, at a time of unprecedented regulatory activity in the EU in this field."

Joint head of Brick Court Jonathan Hirst QC commented: "Alastair Sutton brings a very considerable amount of experience to Brick Court Chambers. His working relationship with many of our EU team makes his integration into our practice seamless."

Brick Court has had a presence in Brussels since the 1990s, and Sutton will be the sole full-time barrister in the base.
