Herbert Smith has announced its annual partner promotions with more than half of the new partners made up outside of the City.

The firm has promoted 13 lawyers to its partnership, including six in London. The promotions are effective as of 1 May.

Amanda Hale (technology, media and telecoms), Daniel Hudson (corporate crime and investigations), Rupert Lewis (banking litigation), Andrew Moir (intellectual property), Andre Pretorius (competition) and David Rosen (real estate) have all been made up in London.

Meanwhile, the firm has promoted one apiece in its Beijing, Tokyo, Riyadh, Moscow and Madrid offices, with two made up in Hong Kong.

Senior partner Jonathan Scott (pictured) said: "All our new partners are highly talented lawyers who will bring new skills to our global partnership and serve the firm's clients well in coming years.

"The international spread of the promotions reflects the changing shape of the global economy, the importance of emerging markets and clients' needs to have advisers across the business centres of Europe, the Middle East and Asia."

The promotions round marks a decrease on last year when 18 were added to the partnership, a third of which were female, compared to three female promotions this year.

The news follows Pinsent Masons and Mishcon de Reya's 2011 promotions, which were announced last week, with Mishcons making its first-ever partner promotion outside of the UK, while Pinsents made up five.
