Shoosmiths has announced the details of its 2011 promotions round, with six lawyers made up to the firm's partnership.

The partner promotions, which took effect on 1 May, are an even spread of men and women, with Birmingham gaining four new partners and Northampton and Reading gaining one each.

Broken down by practice area, half of the partner promotions are in Shoosmiths' consumer legal services arm, Access Legal, where three have been made up. The firm's commercial, real estate and banking practices all gained one partner each.

The total number of new partners is up on previous years after the firm made up four in 2009 and three in 2010.

The round also includes 14 promotions to the newly-created senior associate rank, as well as one senior associate equivalent.

Chief executive Claire Rowe (pictured) commented: "We are once more addressing growth and development and felt it appropriate to review career structures. Staff voted on whether we should introduce a senior associate level recognising the responsibilities taken on by many of our experienced associates and the qualities they bring to the firm."

The news comes after Simmons & Simmons and Clyde & Co announced their partner promotions this week, with Simmons making up eight and Clydes making up nine.
