Eurasian Natural Resources Corporation (ENRC) company secretary and general counsel Randal Barker has resigned his post following the launch of a corporate governance review at the company.

Barker, who joined ENRC from insurance company Resolution when it was acquired by the Pearl Group in 2008, has been responsible for all of the FTSE 100 company's legal affairs throughout recent boardroom upheaval.

The company has come under intense scrutiny in recent weeks, with Labour MP Eric Joyce raising concerns about its "shambles of corporate governance" in the House of Commons at Prime Minister's Question Time.

News of Barker's departure comes a week after two of ENRC's non-executive directors – Sir Richard Sykes and Ken Olisa – were removed from the board by a shareholder vote.

Despite media reports, ENRC chairman Johannes Sittard has not stood down from his role. Instead, he will await the outcome of the corporate governance review before making a decision about his future.

Barker is also a former European general counsel at General Electric and a senior associate at Lovells.
