Jones Day has added to its German technology and media practice with the hire of a long-serving partner from Hogan Lovells.

Wolfgang Buchner, who is a partner in Hogan Lovells' Munich intellectual property, media and technology (IPMT) practice group, is set to join Jones Day along with counsel Undine von Diemar. Their start date at Jones Day is yet to be decided.

Buchner joined Lovells in 1980 and made partner in 1988. He specialises in IT projects and technology-related transactions including outsourcing, media law and the sale of sports rights.

He is a former chair of the German Society of Law and Information Technology and is also an honorary professor at the Leibniz University of Hanover.

Von Diemar, who specialises in IT and IP law, focuses on outsourcing, licence and technology project agreements.

In a statement, Hogan Lovells said: "Our IPMT practice is recognised as being at the top of the market in Germany and Munich is a particularly strong office thanks to partners Stefan Schuppert, Matthias Koch and Steffen Steininger and their teams. We are very confident that we can cover the needs of our clients."

The news comes after Hogan Lovells insurance specialist Jan Schroder announced his departure from the firm's Dusseldorf office to join Allen & Overy (A&O) earlier this month, becoming the fifth partner to join A&O from Hogan Lovells in Germany since May 2010.
