Bird & Bird has increased revenues once more after another year of growth for the expansive firm.

The top 15 City firm increased total revenues by 6.3% to £214.6m over the 2010-11 financial year, while profits per equity partner (PEP) edged up marginally from £466,000 to £467,000.

Net profit stood at £38.3m, up from £37.7m last year. The highest remunerated partner took home £778,000, while the lowest-paid partner earned £292,000.

Last year Bird & Bird saw revenues rise 10%, although PEP dropped 3% from a 2008-09 high point of £481,000.

Legal Week research conducted last year found that Bird & Bird had grown revenues by 150% in the five years up to 2010 – making it the fastest-growing UK top 50 firm – mainly through aggressive international expansion in Western Europe and Asia.

As such, the 2010-11 financial year was unusual for the firm in that it did not open any new international offices. However, the firm has already returned to expansive mode for 2011-12 with launches in Abu Dhabi and Hamburg.

Commenting on the financial results, Bird & Bird CEO David Kerr (pictured) said the firm saw particularly strong demand in the broad contentious area while it also saw some growth in transactional instructions, especially on large commercial projects. The firm does not provide a breakdown by region but said the Asia practice had a slightly higher growth rate than Europe.

Kerr said: "We achieved quite good growth throughout the network including in the UK, despite the difficult market. Across the firm, we were on or just ahead of budget. In terms of profitability, it has been a tough market and to achieve stability is a reasonable outcome under the circumstances. It is a good platform for the new financial year in which we are expecting to see higher growth levels in revenue and will hopefully also increase profitability."

Bird & Bird's results come as Allen & Overy (A&O), Clifford Chance (CC) and Herbert Smith have all posted positive results in the last couple of days, with A&O achieving the highest turnover growth at 7%, while CC achieved the largest PEP increase at 8%.
