Ex-CC funds head Glover brings over clients including EQT, BC, Oakley and Star Capital

Simpson Thacher & Bartlett's London arm has picked up a number of private equity relationships from Clifford Chance (CC) in the wake of its hire of CC's former funds head Jason Glover.

The New York law firm, which brought in Glover at the beginning of the year to launch its UK funds practice, has now worked with several of Glover's former CC clients.

These include EQT Partners, which Glover has been advising in relation to a $5bn (£3.1bn) fundraising, as well as BC Partners, which Glover and a CC team advised on a €4bn (£3.4bn) fundraising earlier this year.

In addition to BC Partners and EQT, Glover has also worked with CC clients including Star Capital, Actis, Oakley Capital, FSN Capital and LCF Rothschild since he joined Simpson Thacher, as well as advising new client Grant Samuel, with which CC does not have a relationship.

CC is continuing to work with BC Partners, Actis and Rothschild and has also maintained a relationship with EQT on transactional work since the departure of Glover as well as carrying out funds work for houses including Bridgepoint, Barclays Private Equity and Apax Partners.

Simpson Thacher hired Glover in July 2010 to launch its City funds practice, with Glover continuing to work at CC until the beginning of January. While at CC he acted for a raft of major clients including Apax, Abraaj Capital, Barclays Private Equity, Butler Capital, Charterhouse, Duke Street Capital and Permira.

One City partner commented: "The fact that Glover's clients followed him to Simpson was an inevitability. There are not many people in the market who can handle this kind of work."
