Hogan Lovells has bulked up in Germany with the hire of a five-lawyer corporate team from local outfit Broich Bezzenberger.
The team, which is led by partners Karin Arnold and Thomas Keul, joined Hogan Lovells' Berlin office earlier this week, alongside of counsel Gerold Bezzenberger and two associates.
Arnold specialises in corporate restructuring and general company law, while Keul advises on company, capital markets and M&A transactions.
The hires take Hogan Lovells' Berlin corporate practice to a total of 16 lawyers, including six partners.
Arnold said: "For us, Hogan Lovells was clearly the first choice in Berlin. We are convinced that this is the right platform to further develop our corporate practice and to offer our clients a wider service in fields we previously could not cover due to our size."
The news comes after a seven-lawyer team left Hogan Lovells' Munich office for DLA Piper earlier this month, while other German departures have included intellectual property partner Wolfgang Buchner, who announced in June that he was joining Jones Day and insurance partner Jan Schroder who announced his departure from the firm's Duesseldorf office to join Allen & Overy (A&O) the same month.
Prior to the merger between legacy Lovells and Hogan & Hartson in May 2010, Hogan & Hartson's Berlin office split into two, with 18 partners breaking away to set up their own firm rather than join the merged entity.
