Stephenson Harwood has added to a partner to its City corporate funds practice with a hire from Simmons & Simmons.

The firm has hired James Tinworth as a partner from Simmons, where he was a managing associate. The hire takes the total number of funds partners at Stephenson Harwood to six.

Tinworth specialises in investment management and investment funds work, with a focus on offshore hedge funds and their management groups. Before joining Simmons in 2005,  he worked in the financial markets group at Linklaters from 2002 to 2004 before joining the investment management group at Berwin Leighton Paisner.

Stephenson Harwood chief executive and corporate head Sharon White commented: "We are delighted that James has joined the firm. James' contacts and experience further enhance our hedge funds and alternative investment funds offering."

Tinworth added: "There are exceptional shifts taking place in the international regulatory environment within which hedge funds operate and my focus will be to enhance the firm's presence in this area and work with clients to develop new business models and funds structures."

Tinworth marks the UK top 30 firm's third significant London hire in recent months, following the hire of Weil Gotshal & Manges London energy and renewables head Andrew McLean, who will join Stephenson Harwood in September, and the June hire of McGrigors London real estate partner Stephen Sumpton.

The firm also strengthened its Paris corporate funds practice in July with the hire of Patrick Mousset from Mayer Brown.
