CMS Cameron McKenna has appointed Chris Watson as the new head of its telecoms, media and technology (TMT) sector group.

Watson took up the new role earlier this month, replacing intellectual property partner Isabel Davies who left the firm in April this year to join Boyes Turner as a consultant.

The role will see Watson oversee a 100-lawyer cross practice group, which includes around 40 partners firm-wide, including roughly 20 in London. The group counts BT and Royal Mail among its key clients.

Watson said the firm was currently mid-way through a review of the TMT practice across all of its offices. The review is intended to ensure CMS has the right coverage across all areas of the sector group, with lateral hires likely at both associate and partner level both in London and internationally.

He told Legal Week: "The main thing for me to focus on at the moment is ensuring that all three parts of TMT are functioning across all the teams in all of our offices. It is important to realise how interdependent they are and we want to make sure that this is reflected in our practice across Europe."

"I am very much looking forward to leading the TMT sector group, which has been a success story for the firm, including a number of important panel wins over the last few years."

Watson joined CMS in 2008 from Dechert, where he was a partner in the competition group for two years. Before that he was also a partner with Allen & Overy and Simmons & Simmons.
