Weil Gotshal & Manges has added a partner to its London restructuring team with a lateral hire from Jones Day.
Paul Bromfield is set to join Weil later this month, with the move reuniting him with Jones Day's former restructuring head Adam Plainer, who joined Weil in January this year.
Bromfield, who has been a partner with Jones Day since 2008, advises creditors, investors, and distressed corporates in cross-border restructurings and insolvencies. He also has experience advising in relation to the acquisition of distressed businesses from either insolvency officeholders or incumbent directors.
His past clients include the administrators of Enron Europe and MG Rover, as well as the mezzanine investor committee in the Cheyne SIV.
Bromfield will be the third restructuring partner in Weil's 10-strong London team, which is led by Plainer. In addition to the duo, the team also includes restructuring partner Dominic McCahill and several other former Jones Day lawyers including counsel Linton Bloomberg and a number of associates.
Weil has been attempting to build a London restructuring practice to replicate its strength in the US for years. In November 2007 the firm lost local restructuring head Chris Mallon to the City arm of New York rival Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom, while Tony Horspool, who joined Weil in April 2008 joined the London office of Ropes & Gray in March 2010.
London managing partner Michael Francies (pictured) commented: "A key element of the firm and the London office's strategy has always been to grow our restructuring practice. In the short time that he has been with us, Adam has become well-established, with some significant UK and international mandates and, with Paul joining, we are well-placed to continue to capitalise on opportunities for the global restructuring practice."
Plainer added: "Having additional partner resource in London is key to our goal of building out the European restructuring team."
