Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe is set to lose its London restructuring team to US rival Dewey & LeBoeuf.

The two-partner team is led by Orrick's European co-head of restructuring and insolvency, Mark Fennessy, who is joining Dewey's seven-partner London business solutions and governance practice alongside fellow restructuring partner Hazel Miller.

Dewey is understood to be in talks to take on the rest of the team, which includes one of counsel, one senior associate, two associates and a paralegal.

Fennessy joined Orrick in 2008 from Hunton & Williams, where he headed the restructuring practice. He advises on contentious and non-contentious matters and represents clients on all forms of restructuring and recovery work.

Miller, who joined Orrick in 2005 from Jones Day, is a specialist in complex financing and financial restructuring matters, and also advises on leveraged and real estate financing transactions.

The pair have advised on restructurings ranging from structured investment vehicle and leverage buyout mandates to involvement in matters such as Lehman Brothers, Wind Hellas and General Motors.

Dewey's London managing partner Peter Sharp (pictured) told The Am Law Daily: "This is the culmination of a long-held strategy in relation to restructuring to complement our strong practice in the US with capability in the UK. We've been looking for a team in London for some time – even before the recession – but there aren't many good teams around and even fewer that become available."

Earlier this year, Dewey & LeBoeuf launched a private equity practice in London with the hire of Taylor Wessing's private equity head Mark Davis and fellow buyout partner Russell Van Praagh.
