Gibson Dunn & Crutcher and Clifford Chance (CC) have taken lead roles on French media conglomerate Vivendi's £83m acquisition of See Tickets, Britain's second-largest ticketing agency.

Gibson Dunn acted for the acquirers on the deal, which comes just nine months after Vivendi took over leading French online ticket retailer Digitick. The US law firm fielded London and Paris-based teams led by corporate partners James Barabas and Ariel Harroch respectively.

The sellers – Netherlands-based private equity firm Parcom Capital – instructed magic circle firm CC on the transaction, which ends months of speculation about the future of See Tickets following the sale of its German division to European market leader CTS Eventim last year.

CC fielded a London-based team under corporate partner Jonny Myers and corporate associate Nicholas Hughes.

The deal will be seen as significant for the London office of Gibson Dunn, which had not previously acted for the French media firm in the UK.

Barabas commented: "The transaction marks our first UK deal for Universal Music Group owners Vivendi, a longstanding client of Gibson Dunn's Paris office. Everything went very smoothly – the only surprise was the queue for V Festival tickets outside my office the day after we closed the transaction."

Gibson Dunn's London office has won several large corporate mandates over the summer, including acting for Hewlett-Packard on its takeover bid for Britain's largest software company Autonomy, as well as Virgin Active's management team on the sale of a controlling stake in the company to private equity house CVC Capital.
