Dewey & LeBoeuf has added a partner to its London energy practice with the hire of Stephenson Harwood partner Marc Hammerson.

The hire takes energy partner headcount in Dewey's London office to seven, with the group led by oil and gas sector head John LaMaster.

Hammerson's practice focuses on energy transactions including M&A, project financing, energy derivatives, private equity and listings, in particular projects in the Middle East, Southeast Asia and Africa.

Dewey said that Hammerson's breadth of practice and international experience would add to existing strengths in the US firm's City base.

LaMaster said: "Marc is a genuine all-rounder, with skills and experience in all types of energy projects. He has advised on projects around the world, so he is a perfect fit for our global practice."

Hammerson commented: "The position of Dewey's London office as a hub for energy projects around the world will allow me to continue to grow my practice, with the support of the firm's significant international resources."

With the hire, Dewey now has 35 partners in its London office. The office saw the departure of two energy partners at the end of last year, when Chris Prior set up consultancy firm Scottsdale Oil & Gas Limited and Keith Hughes joined Vinson & Elkins.

At Stephenson Harwood, the departure comes after the hires of two new London energy partners, with Weil Gotshal & Manges' London energy and renewables head Andrew McLean and Fulbright & Jaworski energy partner Jeremy Sheldon both joining the firm earlier this month.
