Clyde & Co, Allen & Overy (A&O) and Mishcon de Reya are among the firms shortlisted for Law Firm of the Year at the 2011 British Legal Awards.

The trio have been nominated for the coveted award alongside Hogan Lovells, Kirkland & Ellis and Stephenson Harwood.

A&O and Hogan Lovells have also both been nominated for the M&A Team of the Year Award, alongside magic circle duo Slaughter and May and Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and US firms Shearman & Sterling and Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom.

Meanwhile, Intercontinental Hotels Group's George Turner and Grant Dawson from Centrica have both made the shortlist for General Counsel of the Year, alongside senior lawyers from Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Group, Travelex, Barclays Wealth and Clyde Blowers Capital.

Nationwide Building Society has been nominated for Legal Department of the Year alongside companies including Man Group, Ocado Group and the Crown Estate.

This year's ceremony, which will take place at Old Billingsgate Market in London on 1 December, will also see the inaugural TMT Team of the Year Award, with Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, Arnold & Porter, Berwin Leighton Paisner, Mills & Reeve, Morrison & Foerster and Olswang all in contention.

This year's top performers from the Bar are recognised in the line-up for the Chambers of the Year Award, with the shortlist comprising 3 Stone Buildings, Blackstone Chambers, Brick Court Chambers, Guildhall Chambers, Old Square Chambers and Serle Court.

The 20-strong judging panel for the awards this year includes Guy Beringer QC, Guardian Media Group legal director Sarah Davis, City of London Law Society chairman Alasdair Douglas and Nationwide GC Liz Kelly.

The Editor's Award for Managing/Senior Partner of the Year will be presented by Legal Week editor Alex Novarese on the night, as will the City of London Law Society Lifetime Achievement Award.
