Australia's Minter Ellison has added a third partner to its London office with the hire of Mayer Brown corporate specialist Michael Wallin.

Wallin, who will join the firm next month (1 November), is Australian-qualified and will work with Minter's clients in the UK and across Europe.

His arrival will take the number of partners in Minter's London office to three, alongside corporate partner Michael Whalley and finance partner Nigel Clark.

His practice focuses on corporate finance, private equity, joint ventures and venture capital work, M&A and outsourcing, and he has worked with clients including Macquarie Bank and Australian sovereign wealth fund Future Fund.

Wallin has also been handed a remit to develop Minter's business in Asia as after formerly heading up Mayer Brown's China focus group in London.

Minter Ellison chief executive partner John Weber said: "The London office has played a key role in the firm's international network since it was established over 30 years ago and we are delighted to be adding a corporate partner with such depth of experience and strong Australian links as Michael."

London finance partner Nigel Clark commented: "Wallin has the depth of relationships that we were looking for and can offer our major clients Australian law advice from our London base."

The news comes after Minter Ellison saw the majority of its Perth office leave the firm to join Squire Sanders & Dempsey. Minter has since relaunched in Perth following the exit of around 80 lawyers, including 14 partners.

A spokesperson at Mayer Brown commented: "We wish Michael all the very best for his new role."
