Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton has announced its annual partner promotions, with one new partner made up in London out of a global total of seven.

The seven new partners are spread across six of the firm's offices, with two made up in New York, and one each in London, Washington, Paris, Brussels and Milan.

The new London partner, David Billington (pictured), has been at Cleary since 2006 and focuses on international financing and restructuring work.

He also has experience in high yield bonds, structured and real estate finance and securitisation, and clients he has worked with include TPG Capital, Hellman & Friedman, First Reserve, Citi and Goldman Sachs.

The other new partners have been made up in the firm's regulatory, finance, corporate and litigation practices.

The promotions round, which will take effect in the New Year (1 January), also include six new counsel, with tax associate Meyer Fedida made up to counsel in London

The promotions bring the firm's total partner and counsel ranks to 196 and 52 respectively.

Cleary managing partner Mark Leddy commented: "I am very pleased to introduce our new partners and counsel. These five women and eight men truly reflect Cleary's values of legal excellence, internationalism, and diversity – collectively, they speak Dutch, English, French, German, Hebrew, Italian, Russian, and Spanish."

This year's promotions come after Cleary made up four to its partnership in last year's round, with two made up in London – corporate lawyers Sam Bagot and Mike Preston.
