Simpson Thacher & Bartlett, Sullivan & Cromwell and McDermott Will & Emery have become the latest US firms to announce their global partner promotions, with Simpson Thacher emerging as the only firm to add London lawyers to its partnership.
New York firm Simpson Thacher has promoted two City-based corporate lawyers to its all-equity partnership, out of a global promotion round of 12.
The London promotions, which take effect in the New Year (1 January), include Mark Brod, who advises on capital markets transactions with a focus on offerings of high yield debt and equity securities, and Antti Pesonen, who specializes in domestic and cross-border syndicated credit, acquisition finance and other leveraged finance transactions.
Simpson Thacher's other promotions include five corporate lawyers and one litigator in New York, one corporate lawyer apiece in Hong Kong, Houston and Palo Alto, and one litigator in Los Angeles.
The annual promotion round at fellow Wall Street firm Sullivan & Cromwell saw the addition of two litigators in New York to the partnership as well as two lawyers in Washington and one tax lawyer in Paris.
McDermott, meanwhile, has made the majority of its partner promotions in Washington DC, with ten new lawyers joining in the US capital. Chicago gained six new lawyers, while New York gained three. The rest of the 29 promotions were spread across the firm's Boston, Orange Country, Miami, Houston, Los Angeles, Munich, Brussels and Duesseldorf offices.
McDermott co-chair Peter Sacripanti commented: "Through their hard work, good judgment and outstanding dedication to their clients, these lawyers have shown they have the leadership qualities necessary to help guide the firm into the future."
Chicago-based co-chair Jeffrey Stone added: "This year we are pleased to note that almost half of our new partners are women, reflecting our deep commitment to creating a diverse network of leaders across this firm."
