Bird & Bird has bulked up its City energy team with the hire of former Dundas & Wilson infrastructure co-head Andrew Renton.

Renton joined Bird & Bird's international energy and utilities group this month after his departure from Dundas' London office was announced in September this year.

He has been at Dundas since 1998, and specialises in advising on engineering projects in the UK energy, utilities and infrastructure sectors.

Prior to joining the Scots firm, he began his career as a civil engineer before training as a lawyer and spending a period of time as a construction litigation partner at Simpson & Marwick.

Bird & Bird international energy and utilities group co-head John Drake said: "We established a dedicated sector group to develop our offering to a market which has become increasingly high-tech in the move towards renewable and clean-tech alternatives.

"This team has expanded rapidly since its formation, demonstrating what an ideal fit this market is for Bird & Bird's focused service and international team approach."

The news marks the fifth energy partner hire for the firm this year, with three in London and one apiece in Madrid and Duesseldorf.

Bird & Bird unveiled its three-year strategic plan for 2011-14 to its partnership earlier this summer, with international expansion – in particular Asia and the Middle East – and improving client relationships identified as key objectives.
