SJ Berwin and SNR Denton have taken lead roles on Brasserie Blanc's acquisition of the Chez Gerard restaurant chain, with the name set to disappear from London's eatery scene.

SJ Berwin advised Brasserie Blanc, the chain founded by French chef Raymond Blanc, on the acquisition of eight London restaurants from administrator Deloitte, in a deal valued at around £10m. The restaurants will rebrand as Brasserie Blanc in a move expected to cost around £4m.

City corporate partner Nicholas Plant took the lead at SJ Berwin, assisted by real estate associate Helen Savage, reconstruction and insolvency associate Dan Wheatley and tax partner Gareth Amdor.

Meanwhile, SNR Denton acted for longstanding client Deloitte, as Chez Gerard's administrator. The firm's team was led by London restructuring and insolvency partner Rachel Anthony, working alongside real estate partner Jason Sheard and banking and finance senior associate Rob Spedding.

In total, six companies in the Chez Gerard group went into administration last month, including Caffe Uno
Brasseries Limited.

Plant said: "We are thrilled to have acted on this transaction and, in doing so, help save a good business and jobs."

The deal is the latest mandate for SJ Berwin's consumer and retail sector group, coming on the back of transactions including Lion Capital's sale of Wagamama to Duke Street, Brockton Capital's sale of Realpubs to Greene King and Duke Street's sale of Northumbrian Fine Foods.
