Societe Generale has concluded a review of its global panel, with firms including Allen & Overy and Herbert Smith appointed.

The roster, which will take effect in the New Year (1 January), also sees UK firms Clifford Chance, Hogan Lovells, Norton Rose and Simmons & Simmons winning places.

The Paris-headquartered bank has also appointed a number of US firms to the panel including Jones Day, Paul Hastings Janofsky & Walker and Shearman & Sterling.

Other firms to be included are international firm Baker & McKenzie, French leader Gide Loyrette Nouel, and the legal arm of PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PwC).

A spokesperson commented: "These firms have been chosen for their global reach and their international expertise, and are ideally suited to cover the group's needs worldwide. A panel of local law firms will be added to this international panel in all the countries where the group is present."

The majority of the appointed law firms have advised the bank in the past, with Clifford Chance recently advising the bank as a part of a consortium of underwriters on Glencore's initial public offering (IPO), which valued the company at around $60bn ($36.7bn).

It is understood that firms including Linklaters and Ashurst were also part of the panel process, but were not appointed. Linklaters recently advised the bank on its £78m disposal of Esporta to rival gym chain Virgin Active.
